Bisa Studio

In 2023, Marta Jurado Chagnaud and Louis Chagnaud founded Franco-Spanish Bisa Studio. After many years living in Indonesia, the duo decided to move to Madrid to launch a new project that would challenge the conventions of traditional craftsmanship. Bisa Studio’s ambition is to perpetuate ancient craft techniques while highlighting the essence of each of them through pieces that oscillate between durability and aesthetic appeal.

In Indonesian, ‘Bisa’ expresses the idea that a field of possibilities is infinite; an expression that is perfectly defined by the universe of this Franco-Spanish company. From ceramics to blown glass, via rattan, each material is transformed into a functional work of art. And that is what Bisa Studio is all about, highlighting the relationship between art and design. Unlike the duo’s other brand, Heaps & Woods, Bisa Studio advocates craftsmanship that is liberating, far removed from the conventions usually imposed. The company does not restrict itself to one single practice – it is a brand that explores multiple possibilities. The duo aims to go against the tide of mass production in the furniture market. Available in limited editions, each piece of furniture is a masterpiece, made with care and passion. This approach allows the use of more complex craft techniques, weaving together rarity and beauty. ‘SLOW’ is Bisa Studio’s motto.

Aware of the crafts specific to each country, Marta and Louis work closely with a range of workshops, largely in Spain, which has a particular wealth in ceramics, but also in Indonesia, renowned for its expertise in rattan work. Bisa Studio’s narrative highlights the variety of craft techniques around the world, each recounting its own story. Bisa Studio’s furniture is not only made to be admired, but also to arouse interest in the message it seeks to convey.
